Copyright claim on YouTube and Vimeo videos

PRESS RELEASE: January 25, 2012. Aalborg, Denmark. Due to a copyright violation, I have asked YouTube, LLC and Vimeo, LLC to remove videos which contained a photograph that I own. At this moment, YouTube has removed the video and I expect Vimeo to do the same, when they have processed the DMCA (Digital Millennium Copyright Act) complaint. (Edit: Vimeo has removed the videos). Other sites has been notified of the copyright infringement as well.

The videos in question are promotion videos for a future street protest, organized by the English Defence League, in cooperation with Danish Defence League and Stop Islamisation of Denmark.

I’m asking YouTube and Vimeo to remove the videos because of a copyright violation, not because of a political agenda, which these groups claims.

Stop Islamisation of Denmark and their chairman Anders Gravers, have earlier been convicted of a copyright violation, after using the infamous Mohammed-cartoon by former Jyllands-Posten cartoonist Kurt Westergaard, on their website and during a street protest. Like Kurt Westergaard, I will not accept that mine nor my colleagues’ work are being used for a political agenda and without permission from the copyright holder.

If the above mentioned group continues to violate the copyright, I will take legal action in a court of law.

It is important for us photographers to stand together against copyright infringement. We do this for a living, but our working conditions are getting worse. It does not help with people stealing our work, which happens on a massive scale on the internet. The music industry calls it ‘thievery’ when people download music illegally. People stealing photos and publishing without permission should be called thieves too.

I have covered many events in 2011. Everything from concerts, street protest and huge sport events. Here’s some of these events.

15 February 2011: The very funny Canadian stand up comedian Jason Rouse, performing at Studenterhuset in Aalborg, Denmark. Now Magazine describe him as "the evil Jim Carrey, but smarter and light years funnier."

20 February 2011: AaB Handball met Russian team Chekovskie Medvedi in the Men's EHF Champions League match, and lost by 30-38. Aalborg, Denmark.

15 April 2011: Legendary Danish rock band, Sort Sol, performing at Aalborg Congress and Culture Centre for their 2011 reunion tour.

13 May 2011: Princess Marie of Denmark visits an autism project for girls with autism in Aarhus. The Princess is a patron for the autism association in Denmark.

27 May 2011: Battle of Carnival Bands is an international carnival competition held in Aalborg, Denmark. The Aalborg Carnival is the biggest of it's kind in northern Europe with more than 25,000 participants and more than 100,000 spectators.

22 June 2011: Spain wins the UEFA Under21 Championship against Switzerland.

1 July 2011: British indie rock band Kaiser Chiefs from Leeds, UK performs at Nibe Festival 2011, an annual music festival located in northern Jutland.

16 July 2011: Belgian heavy metal band "Aborted" performing at Day of Decay music festival in Aalborg, Denmark.

23 July 2011: In front of the Norwegian Consulate in Aalborg, local political activists, members of parliament and citizens showed their sympathy with the Norwegian people, following the attacks in Oslo and Utoya Island.

25 July 2011: Aalborg was again the setting for local citizens, politicians, tourists and Norwegians, living in Denmark, to commemorate the victims of Friday's terrorist attack in Norway. Hundreds came to show their sympathy.

7 September 2011: Aalborg Handball played their first league match after being detached from the AaB A/S company. Aalborg won 30 – 25 against Nordsjælland Handball.

15 September 2011: After three weeks of political campaigns, the people of Denmark were ready to choose the next Prime Minister. The 1454 polling stations closed at 8 pm and Helle Thorning-Schmidt of the Social Democrats became the next PM of Denmark.

5 October 2011: Apple CEO Steve Jobs died and the news started ticking in on the devices he have invented.

26 November 2011: Santa arrives in Aalborg, Denmark. An annual tradition in the city.

1 December 2011: Danish Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt visited members of the public to get ideas and exchange opinions in what she said was "an old tradition in the Danish democracy that citizens can meet their ministers".
